Wooden Posts and Accessories
Your best bet when choosing a type of wood for post applications is Southern Yellow Pine. Southern Yellow is the heaviest, longest lasting post due to the cell structure of the wood. The cell structure allows the chemicals to thoroughly permeate the entire post during the pressure treating process. Lighter woods, like lodge pole and red pine, don't have the same cell structure, so the pressure treating process doesn't reach the inner core of the wood- red pine starts to dry rot from the inside out, shortly after installation, and will need replacement in a few years. For this reason, we do not sell Red Pine. Your trellis system will last much longer with Lodge Pole or Southern Yellow Pine. *Good- Red Pine– Cheaper, lighter– therefore more on a truckload. Red Pine sold by the truck load only **Better- Lodge Pole– Slow growth, tall & straight. Random limbs-less knots makes for stronger posts. Best availability of 10 & 12ft posts ***Best- Southern Yellow Pine– Strongest, heaviest and proven to be the longest lasting post available
